The Seas of Mana

Mana was a world once ruled by the Great Beasts with unfathomable power. They grew in strength with no remorse until destruction became their goal, invoking a response from their creators; the Spirits. To combat their creations the Spirits created another; the first known Native to walk the turbulent lands and seas. They were endowed with the blessings of the Spirits themselves, granted strength beyond comprehension to defeat the spawn of the Great Beasts. And for their struggle they were victorious, but not without a price paid by the slayers. Those that killed the Great Beasts and their spawn were stripped of their souls which contained the Spirits' power; a consequence that fell to naught with time, until the Natives claimed the lands for themselves and forgot the blessings from their Spirits.

In spite, the Spirits placed upon the Natives a curse that would turn their hearts and bodies on the cusp of every Full Moon into beasts of legend to terrorize their brethren. Those born without their souls as a consequence from their slayer forebears, were forced to live in terror hence forth as their Souled brethren succumbed to their beastial power, and slaughtered any and all within their path.

For a millennium the power had shifted toward the beastial Natives fearfully called the 'Souled', until technology bound forward granting the upper hand to their victims; the UnSouled. Physical enhancements gave them the strength to combat their brethren, while medical science created a benign solution to suppress the Moon's changes upon the Souled. For a time a balance had settled between them...and as we come to the present day of this alternate world, we find that this shaky truce still holds true.

But not all peaceful times are meant to last forever. And there is talk of uprising...of the 'true' Native to come forth and reclaim their place upon the World of Mana. And in the secluded city of Shinsei, the talk grows louder as a rebellious voice demands to be heard...
